Tour
Sebastian Inlet, Florida
January 11-18, 2009
The O'Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro Presented by Ron Jon
is the biggest and most prestigious surfing contest on the US East Coast
and one of the top three on mainland North America. The tournament will
feature a field of more than 200 surfers from more than a dozen countries.
The
2009 O'Neill SI Pro will be a 4-star rated mens event offering a cash purse
of $85,000.00 and valuable points leading to a berth on the Association
of Surfing Professionals' elite World Championship Tour.
The O'Neill SI
Pro will once again kick off the world's professional surfing season and
will be run from January 11-18, 2009.
Sebastian Inlet's first, second and
third peaks were a regular contest venue for such past events as the The
Florida Pro, The Stubbies Classic and the Bud Pro Tour. The 2005 Sebastian
Inlet Pro marked the return of high-level professional surfing to Florida's
most famous surfing break.
The O'Neill Sebastian Inlet Pro attracts many of the best
and best emerging surfers in the world. Past competitors include Kelly
Slater, Tom Curren, Shane Beschen, Josh Kerr, Cory Lopez, Shea Lopez,
Ben Bourgeois, Timmy Curran, Nathaniel Curran, Pat Gudauskas, Ola Eleogram,
Kai Barger and Clay Marzo.
The O'Neill SI Pro also includes the Red Bull
Tow-At, a specialty event that features a field of 10 hand-picked surfers.
Utilizing a Sea-Doo Personal Watercraft, these surfers are whipped into
waves at speeds of up to 20 miles-per-hour leading to deep gouging carves
and big aerial maneuvers. The 2005 SI Pro was the birthplace of professional
Tow-At surfing competition. Similar events are now often held in other
parts of the world and are always a crowd favorite.
The O'Neill Sebastian
Inlet Pro Presented by Ron Jon is owned and produced by Board Sports
Management, the surfing world's leading athlete and event management
firm.
It is a 4-star rated event sanctioned by the Association of Surfing
Professionals.
